New Shooter Canada

About

Welcome to the New Shooter Canada Podcast.

A bit about myself I suppose, well my name is George and I myself am new to the shooting community. My goal is to create a library of podcasts that new shooters can go back through and listen to as they begin their journey in this great and rewarding sport.

Being new myself I have found that a lot of the podcasts out right now have a certain assumption of listener experience and understanding and over the past 12 months I have googled and youtube’d a great many things trying to learn and understand what they are talking about. My goal is to create a one stop shop for information.

As I continue to learn I will be sharing my experiences with you the listener through the podcast. I also encourage you to email in any question you may have to host@newshootercanada.ca. If I don’t know the answer I will search out the great vast internet for the answer and we will learn together.

Thanks for stopping by and keep your barrel down range and smoking.

  1. George…..just one tiney thing. Shooting sports is a sport, not a hobby. Collecting stamps is a hobby.

There are almost 20 shooting events in the Olympics. Its an international sport. So please uodate your webpage accordingly

Sorry but its my pet peeve when when someone tells me that my sport is a hobby.

    Keep up the great work

    • I do have sport / hobby and I have both for a reason. I agree with you that it is a sport but for many it is a hobby. A lot of people go to the range just to shoot. They collect different types of firearms for the pleasure of shooting a variety of calibres or styles etc.

For you it is a sport, for me it is more of a hobby.

      http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Hobby
      hob·by 1 (hb)
      n. pl. hob·bies
An activity or interest pursued outside one’s regular occupation and engaged in primarily for pleasure.

The great thing about shooting is that each person can personalize it to fit what they want it to be.

  2. Sorry l repeated my post. I thought it did not go through.

Reloading is more of a hobby with me, but not shooting. I am a club level handgun safety instructor and a level 1 pistol coach. I also compete, so to me its a sport.

I think your website is a great idea for the new shooter. I have have a few suggestions for the new shooters if you are interested.

    • I agree fully with you. You take shooting to a very different level than most. And yes I agree fully with you in regards to shooting being a sport.

Its kinda like golf or hockey. You have the PGA and NHL and no one would argue the sporting aspect of that. But you bring it down to the guy that might go out on the course for a casual round of 18 a couple times a month or the guy the plays pick up hockey a couple times a month on a friday night and a round of beers afterwards. I think those are different. If you do it just for the fun of it and its purely recreational than I think it falls into the hobby category.

If you take it to the compitition level like yourself than yes I fully agree with you it IS a sport at that point. I do see your point and where you are coming from. For me, this is purely for fun and is something I can do with my daughters as a pass time. I truly do not intend to belittle or demean what you do. I’m a terrible a shot and have great admiration for those that practice and put the time into shooting and become great athletes. I just don’t feel it is right to put myself in that same category. It feels like its taking away from all the hard work Shooting Athletes put into their sport.

I have a few shot topics chambred up (yes pun fully intended 😉 ) and what I am hoping is that eventually I’ll get listening feedback and questions to also add to the podcast. So being a coach I’m sure you are a wealth of knowledge and idea’s so I welcome them.
