SASS Powerfactor

The minimum standard for center-fire smokeless ammunition used in all SASS matches State, Regional, National, International, and World Championship Competitions is not less than a minimum power factor of 60 and no velocity may be less than 400 fps. The maximum velocity standard for revolvers is 1000 fps. The maximum velocity standard for rifles is 1400 fps. Pocket pistols, derringers, and long-range rifles are exempt from the power factor and velocity requirements. Power factors are simply calculated by multiplying the bullet weight times the velocity and then the resulting number is divided by 1000.

Some examples are as follows: 100 gr bullet traveling at 600 fps has a power factor of 60: (100×600)/1000=60.00 77 gr bullet traveling at 800 fps has a power factor of 61.6 (77×800)/1000=61.60 200 gr bullet traveling at 400 fps has a power factor of 80 (200×400)/1000=80.00

  1. Gentlemen,
I’ve been reading some of Canada’s social media over the last couple years. When the topic of guns come up some Canadians say things describing our gun culture very negatively. We hear things like, we don’t want to be like the gun crazies in the states. There’s no need to carry a gun everywhere you go. It’s unsafe to carry a gun all the time. Those Americans are reckless with their gun culture and need more restrictive laws.
You just spent 3 days in the US. You were surrounded by Americans with CCW permits. You were surrounded by people that put a belt on everyday the same way you do. The difference is our belt has a gun on it.
Did you ever see any of us handle our CCW unsafe?
Did you ever feel there may be a shoot out. What if a car cut us off? Would our sidearms be drawn?
Did you feel unsafe walking with people that were armed, in the house, grocery store, restaurants or gas station?
Of course these are all loaded questions. I ask them to make a point. I think it’s necessary for Canadians to hear that people carry in the US daily. We aren’t looking for a fight. We aren’t solving problems with our guns. We aren’t playing with them like toys. We aren’t acting like law enforcement. We are some well rounded honest people interested in personal safety. Those that carry every day are equally as likely to have a fire extinguisher, fire starter or tools to fix their cars with them. Having a gun under your jacket doesn’t change your character.

As a participant of the Michigan event, We all represented gun owners in a positive light.
